Women's Leadership Program Updates

Thanks to everyone who attended our Día del Niño event on Saturday, April 27th at Painter Park.  By a stroke of luck that we don't always see organizing events, we finally had a beautiful day!  The wonderful sunshine helped make sure we had a great celebration, and I feel good saying the event was a success.  More than 200 community members came together to celebrate the neighborhood’s children.

In addition to the nice weather, there were a lot of other things that made this event so special.  The music of Carlos Lumbi started the program, which was followed by a variety of delicious food not far behind.

Do you have dreams for your family and community?  Want more information about available city services and programs?  Do you see ways to improve the area you live in?  Are you interested in what other people care about?

If you answered yes to these questions, LNA has a way for you to get involved and accomplish your dreams.  Latinas de Lyndale en Liderazgo, the Latina part of the Women's Leadership Program, is starting its third cohort very shortly and looking for new participants.

On Saturday, December 15, over 300 members and friends of the Lyndale Neighborhood attended a wonderful holiday celebration called La Posada at the Lyndale Elementary School.

At our December meetings the Somali Women’s Leadership Cohort took ownership for their Community Project. They worked very hard organizing the event. They divided themselves into three groups, with each team taking on a specific role. The different groups were responsible for organizing the food, getting homework help information for the families, and making the flyers. They also shared certain common tasks like delivering the flyers, door knocking, setting up the event, and clean up.

Come one, come all!  This year Lyndale celebrates the 14th annual La Posada event on Saturday, December 15th at Lyndale School from 4:00pm to 7:30pm.  LNA in collaboration with several Latina leaders are proud to present this community event.

La Posada is a Mexican Holiday celebration, which is traditionally celebrated on the streets with processions of people knocking on doors for a place to stay. This happens for the nine days before Christmas to mimic the act of Mary and Joseph.  After permission is received, there is a celebration with a large meal and the breaking of piñatas.
