Dia Del Nino ~ Children's Day Celebration
Save the date! Saturday, April 28th 3:30 – 6:00 pm
At Painter Park (34th and Lyndale) Most countries around the world celebrate a Children’s Day, often preceding Mother’s or Father’s Day. In Guatemala they celebrate on October 1st, Ecuador celebrates on June 1st and in Mexico they celebrate on April 30th.
About 7 years ago in Lyndale, a mother of Mexican heritage wanted to start a Lyndale Día del Niño celebration. We’ve continued this tradition\ by celebrating Día del Niño annually in Lyndale following the Mexican tradition. This year’s celebration will be on Saturday, April 28th in Painter Park. Latinas de Lyndale en Liderazgo (the Women’s Leadership Program Latina Cohort) are in charge of organizing the event and the neighborhood should anticipate some innovation this year.
The women are particularly interested in the quality of the activities for kids and families. It is possible that this year you will see singing, dancing, playing games and many more surprises. The group would like to emphasize that this event is a celebration for all neighbors and not only Latinos. This is an opportunity to share cultures and enjoy an element that we are all connected by; the family! Mark the date in your calendar; while the neighborhood leaders are preparing, community members should get excited for all the fun we are going to have this day! If you are interested in getting involved or have any questions, contact sarah@lyndale.org or call Sarah at (612) 824-9402, ext. 12.
