Art Gallery Coming to Lyndale Community Center
Starting this July the Lyndale Community Center will be a lot more colorful and a lot more interesting. The Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) and Regla De Oro gallery are forming a partnership to present art shows at the Lyndale Community Center.
The plan is to have Regla curate three shows annually at the Community Center. The shows will focus on artists who live and work close to the Lyndale neighborhood, but shall not be exclusive to them. The shows may include a mix of shows centered around specific artists or community themes.
The goals of this partnership are to:
- Provide a place for local artists to display and sell their work.
- Promote Lyndale as an art-friendly community.
- Increase traffic to the Lyndale Community Center and to Lyndale.org.
- Promote Regla De Oro as a local gallery.
Regla De Oro is a fair trade art gallery located at 3007 Lyndale Avenue that is owned and operated by Jessica Smith. Jessica was recently awarded the 2012 successful entrepreneur award by the Lake Street Council.
The partnership is intended to benefit local artists, LNA, Regla, and Nicollet Avenue businesses by creating additional opportunities for local artists to sell their work, while bringing more people to the Lyndale Community Center and along Nicollet Avenue. LNA is able to provide the space for the gallery through the renovation of Community Center last fall when picture molding was installed in the renovated portion of the building.
The opening of the gallery space for the public will be at the reception for the Lyndale Garden Tour on Thursday, July 12th, sometime after 8:00 pm. The gallery will be open to the public during normal business hours when the building is staffed. The show will also be available online at www.lyndale.org/art.
The first show will feature Catherine Palmer who is a painter living in South Minneapolis. The starting place for Catherine’s work is “color; color leads me through space to composition. My subject matter can be identified as a conversation with the world I live in, influenced by feminism, personal circumstance and the on-going attempt to create a pure art object, one that exists solely for the experience of the beholder.” You can learn more about Catherine and see examples of her work at www.catherineapalmer.com.
People interested in participating in an upcoming show or in purchasing works on display should contact Jessica at regladeoro@mac.com or 612.886.1247. General questions on the gallery or people interested in helping with the gallery should contact Mark at mark@lyndale.org or 612.824.9402 x 16.
