It’s been almost sixty years since Nicollet Avenue has seen the type of activity starting that will be starting this month.  For the first time since the 1950s the stretch of Nicollet Avenue in Lyndale will be reconstructed; a reconstruction that will bring major changes to Nicollet that should have lasting results for years to come.

This year’s work will be broken into three phases, with the first phase scheduled to start on Monday, May 7th.  The three phases for this year’s construction are:

The City is nearing the final stages of approving the construction contract with Thomas and Sons Construction Inc.  Public Works is working through some of the final details with Thomas and Sons.  We do not have a confirmed start date yet, but that will be shared as soon as it's known.  (However, it's anticipated that Thomas and Son will begin their 2012 Phase 1 (Lake St to 32nd St) construction work sometime between April 30th and May 11th, with May 7th as the most likely date.)

In 2012, four people will be elected to the Minneapolis School Board.  There will be a change this year in how Minneapolis Board of Education members are elected, based on the outcome of a referendum passed in 2008.  This year members will be elected in districts that coincide with Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board Districts, 2, 4, and 6, there will also be one at-large member elected.  In the past all School Board Members were elected at-large.

Do you want to give back to your neighborhood?  Do you like to be in the middle of what’s going on?  If so, you should consider serving on LNA’s Board of Directors.  On Monday, June 25th LNA will be holding an election for six seats on LNA’s Board of Directors.  Serving on the board is a really important service to the neighborhood and a great way to be involved in everything going on in the neighborhood.

Minneapolis Water began to replace gate valves on the water mains in late February.  Water shutoffs are typically done between the hours of 11pm and 5am to minimize inpacts.  Affected properties will be notified in advance of the shut-offs (a minimum of 48 hours for businesses).
