There’s a tension in neighborhood work that can make what we do as an organization challenging.  Everyone who lives and works in the neighborhood has an opinion about what we should do and how we should do – at least you hope so, because you know your in trouble when the people who live in your community don’t care about what happens to it.  Yet our ability to shape the neighborhood is directly connected to the time and energy community members are willing to invest into the neighborhood.

At one the best attended Annual Meetings in years, community members came together to celebrate the neighborhood and elected eight new board members to the Lyndale Neighborhood Association’s (LNA) Board of Directors.

The evening started off with a community potluck with LNA providing hot dogs, burgers, and sides to get everything started.  This year LNA Board Member Robert Dahlstrom provided a taste of the State Fair by making fresh cheese curds and French fries.

On Wednesday, July 16th, volunteers from the Environment Committee will begin distributing fresh vegetables grown in Lyndale to community members at the Lyndale Community Dinner.  The Lyndale Community Dinner takes places every Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm at Zion Lutheran Church (128 W 33rd).

This will be the start of the Lyndale Food Share for this summer. If you have extra produce growing in your garden, consider contributing it, interested in getting fresh vetegables come to the Community Dinner.

Have you ever noticed that graffiti is a lot like weeds, when the weather warms up you see it start to sprout up everywhere - the difference is graffiti is a lot more disgusting to look at and can be harder to get rid of.  Once again LNA has hired a couple graffiti busters to remove or paint over graffiti in the Lyndale neighborhood.

Join LNA and Youth Farm outside of the Horn Towers building on the corner of 31st and Pillsbury on Wednesday, July 9th for the Open Eye Driveway Tour’s performance of Molly and the Magic Boot. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, and your kids and neighbors for this fun, free event. The show runs from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

Lyndale and Youth Farm have invited the tour to Lyndale for the last five years in order to enjoy storytelling and a great time outdoors!

You may have noticed that the winter was not kind to some of the new, greener features of Nicollet Avenue.  This spring there were a number of trees that didn’t make it through their first winter and there were lots of patches of dead grass.

According to the Park Board they are still working on their spring tree planting, but as soon as that is done, they will be out to inspect the trees along Nicollet.  They will removing any dead or broken trees and planting new trees this fall.
