With 2013 almost over we took time during this meeting to review our current work plan and see how much we had accomplished. Even though as a committee we have been busy this past year, we realized that too many projects didn’t get attended to.
We decided to make a change in the way the H,P&D Committee functions in 2014. We are going to become more of a working committee. Projects for 2013 that ended up as discussion items at meetings are now going to be adopted by a committee member and that person will find the resources and help to tackle the project. There were also a couple “potential projects” added to the list of work to be done.
Don Gerberding, of Master Properties Minnesota LLC, attended our October meeting to present information regarding the building at 3225 Lyndale Avenue, formally the Southwest Journal home. The existing building will be modified to create space for Fiant Dental offices.
I-35W RECAP REPORT #25 – SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2013 PROJECT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
Charleen Zimmer, President of Zen & Associates, acted as chairwoman for today in Lisa Vecoli’s absence. The main goal of today’s meeting was to approve and put forth a recommendation from the group as to the final design concept of the Transit Station at Lake St and 35W, allowing the architectural firms to move forward with their construction plans, operational/security/maintenance plans and cost estimates.
The meeting was on Wednesday, July 10th, from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the Lyndale Community Center.
Mackensize Turner, from City of Minneapolis Public Works presented information regarding the bicycle lanes, durable crosswalk markings, painted curb extensions and lane changes.
The West 31st Street resurfacing is completed through a mill and overlay. The mill and overlay process consists of removing a portion of the existing asphalt pavement surface (milling) and putting down a new layer of asphalt (overlay). The purpose of the resurfacing program is to extend the life of a roadway by approximately 10 years. Without this program, streets in the program would not see surface improvements for many years. This portion of the 31st Street project has been completed.
Walking and Bicycling Improvements:
Upcoming construction schedule, weather dependent.
Thomas and Sons has begun with the subgrade grading and adding gravel work on the north end of the project area and will work south. They will begin some concrete work this week or early next, this would include installation of some of the bus pads.
Businesses are open during construction and local access to business and residential driveways will be maintained. However, it will change based on the type and location of the work being done.
We will share any updates as they are available.
Stakeholder construction updates

You can almost feel it percolating up. It’s that feeling in the air when you know something big is coming; only you don’t know what it is or when it is going to happen. That seems to be what’s going on in Lyndale right now.
Throughout the month of November, LNA will be focusing on three projects that have the potential to have a major impact on Lyndale; and while none of the projects is imminent all of them have a realistic chance of happening in future and have the ability to reshape the neighborhood.
Phase 3 work is still progressing.
The schedule for this week, weather permitting,
Thomas and Sons is working on the south half of the 36th St and Nicollet Ave intersection. They expect to follow the following schedule, weather dependent:
