You can almost feel it percolating up.  It’s that feeling in the air when you know something big is coming; only you don’t know what it is or when it is going to happen.  That seems to be what’s going on in Lyndale right now.

Throughout the month of November, LNA will be focusing on three projects that have the potential to have a major impact on Lyndale; and while none of the projects is imminent all of them have a realistic chance of happening in future and have the ability to reshape the neighborhood.

Phase 3 work is still progressing.

The schedule for this week, weather permitting,

Thomas and Sons is working on the south half of the 36th St and Nicollet Ave intersection. They expect to follow the following schedule, weather dependent:

Phase 3 (35th to 36th St) is progressing very quickly.  Thomas and Sons has completed the pavement removals and most of the storm sewer work.

Thomas and Son’s plan, as it stands now, weather permitting, is to:

·        Pour the concrete bus pads at 35th St (SE corner) Friday (Oct 5th)

·        Work Saturday (October 6th) to gravel and final grade in preparation of the first layer of asphalt between 35th and 36th

·        Place the first layer of asphalt between 35th St and 36th St on Monday (October 8th)

Even as I spent the last couple weeks watching and listening to the big machines rip up the 3500 block of Nicollet, I could see the end of this year’s construction coming into sight.

The Phase 3 walk-around is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, 2012.  Meet at the Lyndale Neighborhood office at 11am if you’d like to join us.

A series of three open house meetings is scheduled to give the public an opportunity to learn about modern streetcar and enhanced bus options being considered on a key route through the city, and to share their ideas on improving transit service. The City of Minneapolis is examining options to improve public transit along the busy corridor that includes Nicollet Avenue through south Minneapolis and downtown and Central Avenue in Northeast.

The open houses will provide an overview of the Nicollet-Central Transit Alternatives Study, which is just beginning and will continue into 2013.  The study will identify a preferred transit enhancement that could serve as the first phase of a longer-ranger vision for transit service in the corridor.

Thomas and Sons will be paving between 35th to just north of Burger King tomorrow. They are continuing with subgrade correction and underground utility work north of 34th St, this work should be completed early next week. After the subgrade work is completed, they will begin with grading in the area north of 34th St.

The intersections of 32nd, 33rd, and 34th will be closed. They will minimize the parking restrictions as much as possible outside of the construction zone. The restrictions are necessary to allow for equipment maneuvering and to maintain safety for the public as well as the construction workers. All businesses will be open.

Thomas and Sons will be continuing with pavement removals between 34th St and 32nd S. They are scheduled to begin installation of new storm main tomorrow, starting at 35th St and working north.

The intersections of 32nd, 33rd, and 34th will be closed. They will minimize the parking restrictions as much as possible outside of the construction zone. The restrictions are necessary to allow for equipment maneuvering and to maintain safety for the public as well as the construction workers. All businesses will be open.

Minneapolis Water is in the process of reconnecting customers to the water main and removing the temporary hoses and piping.
