Board Member Highlight: Pavlina Tesch

Pavlina Tesch has served on the Lyndale Neighborhood Association’s board since 2022 and is a renter in the Lyndale neighborhood. She also serves as the Engagement Committee Chair.

Here’s what Pavlina had to say about her experience on the board:

What inspired you to join LNA’s board of directors?

As a newcomer to the US, with Lyndale being my first home, I wanted to learn about the local community and see where I could offer my knowledge and experience in organizing events and connecting people together. Then, one of my neighbors sent an email announcing the opportunity to join the LNA Board, so I took my chance and submitted my application.

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of being a board member?

I truly enjoy connecting with neighbors and preparing events where neighbors can meet and get to know each other. It is deeply rewarding to hear from the community how much they enjoy certain events and how they are thankful for a chance to meet other people in the neighborhood. Furthermore, being an LNA board member has provided me with a deep insight into local society, which, for me – as a foreigner – has been an absolutely invaluable experience.

Can you share a memorable experience or success story from your time as a board member?

I am so very thankful that we started the Lyndale Garage Sales Day. Such an event didn’t exist in Lyndale. Inspired by this event in other neighborhoods, we organized the first Lyndale Garage Sales Day in 2023 with 20 garage sales locations. This year, we have almost 30 garage sales locations across the entire neighborhood. It’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm that this event takes place in Lyndale!

Make a difference in the community where you live or own a business by applying to LNA’s Board of Directors. Elections occur July 22, 2024.

LNA specifically seeks to foster the leadership and participation of people in whom neighborhood organizations have historically underinvested — people who rent, and people who identify as BIPOC (Black, indigenous, people of color), LGBTQ+, and seniors.
